Hello, I’m Ian. Thanks for dropping by.

I’m a freelance UX / UI Design Lead - coming out as a type one on the Enneagram; on the plus side I have a natural instinct for orderliness, attention to detail and continual improvement, and on the other side I have to make an effort to manage my idealistic perfectionist tendencies!

My current focus is orientated towards simplistic customer-centric digital design, and how a culture of continual improvement and applying reduction to UX and UI plays a pivotal role in effective customer experiences.

I have worked with agencies big and boutique, as well as racking up a long stretch of freelancing, covering on-site, hybrid and remote working set-ups. Both instances have included working within a broader team and as an individual.

I've been in the design industry for around 15 years. The first half leaning towards brand strategy and design, then making the pivot to specialising in digital design — giving me a rounded understanding of how to effectively apply a brand in the digital space.

A Process of Innovation

A Process of Innovation

My approach to design follows the Double Diamond – a methodology that champions understanding over assumptions and supports cycling backwards in order to arrive at the most refined effective outcome.

My approach to design follows the Double Diamond – a methodology that champions understanding over assumptions and supports cycling backwards in order to arrive at the most refined effective outcome.

01

Discover

The first diamond helps the project team understand, learn and empathise with people who are affected by the issues, rather than simply assume what the problem is.

02

Define

The insight gathered from the discovery phase can be used to define and frame the design challenge in a different way.

03

Develop

The second diamond encourages broad ideation to the clearly defined problem, forming inspiration and concepts that are distilled down into design solutions.

04

Deliver

Delivery involves designing and prototyping prioritised solutions at small-scale, continually testing and improving the ones that work, until ready to launch.
